The Readings

Understanding the concepts and following what the different authors are trying to write is pretty difficult for me to understand, but after reading some of the articles a couple times, key ideas become easier to comprehend.

While reading Digital Visual Culture: Theory and Practice I'm starting to look different medium's of art in a new light. This book glances different theories as to how to look at digital art compared to what is considered "traditional" art.

I have never thought of art created on a computer (digital media) as well...not art. In the article Aesthetics and Interactive Art by Karen Cham, it's mentioned that art critics and others aren't able to critique art of today compared to traditional art. It's interesting that people cannot view creations by people, even if it is digital media, as art. Critics of this digital medium, as mentioned in the book argue that this new art is blending the lines between photography, music, painting, sculpting, etc. and cannot be looked at aesthetically because of this reason, it does not fit any paradigm of more traditional art...but who's to say it has to?
